Fun and pains

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Fully proven that I am indeed a stupidgirl.  Went to an Ann Summers party on Friday night, had a fab time and met some really lovely ladies.

 Girlie evening

However I seem to have drunk too much.  Jane and I each brought a bottle of red wine and were both drinking red wine, which would suggest I drank about a bottle.  I’m not sure she was pulling her weight though as I have been ill ever since!  Although just had a Pizza Hut delivery and feel a lot more human now it must be said!  Also now tried the new hot cookie dough.

Oh. My. God.

Heaven in a wee box

Yum.

Anyway, where was I?  Ah yes, drinking too much wine.  Got home, was ill, went to bed, got up, was ill.  Last night was cousin’s Ray’s 30th birthday night out.  Friends were coming up from Edinburgh for it so we went into town about 4.30 to meet them for dinner and then go to the pub to see everyone else.  I had to sit and watch them eat whilst I nursed a glass of water.  Of course I got little sympathy as it was self induced and they took great delight in talking about being sick and other quesy topics.

I did manage to stay out past midnight and about 9pm I coped with some potato wedges but I was a bit surprised to wake up still feeling rough this morning!  That’s just not fair!

Anyway had a fab time both nights.  Was great to see all Ray, and Bryan’s mates, last night and meet another “wife” and one of their colleagues.  Some of the Robertson clan pitched up too so that was cool to see them.

So, keep me away from red wine and remember to contact Pizza Hut if you need a hangover cured!!!

Gorgeous poem – just have to share

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.  I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

So today I went to the gym (had a fab and wonderful time, thanks Gill!).  I have gym trainers that have never been outside, and never used since last time I went to a gym, rather a long time ago.  So I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised when I went to put them on and discovered something in one.  Nope, not a roll of twenty pound notes, that would have been fab, but I live in the real world!

In my trainer, was a peanut, still in its shell.

Now when my chipmunk Captain Jack Sparrow died I thought I had checked all my shoes as I knew he liked hiding nuts there “for later”.  I obviously missed that one though!  Once it stops snowing I will take it out and put it on his grave for him, as I did with all the ones I found at the time.  Bless him, couldn’t have him nut less!

Miss you Cap’t Jack!

What’s wrong with glasses?!

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Just watching Hollyoaks (well need to relax after Kinetics) and I realised that the opening thing is cruel.  Everyone is all sexed up which is fine and lovely but then it occured to me that no one has their glasses on.  Now are they trying to say that glasses aren’t sexy and attractive??!  And if so why do Ann Summers give them as part of their Secretary dressing up set?

Grrrrrr, the world makes me MAD!!!

Mile stone

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Well my smug happiness continues.  As well as finishing 12 weeks of an exercise program I am happy to report that I have lost half a stone.  A whole 7 pounds!  Hurrah!

To celebrate I am letting Gill take me to her gym tomorrow and will get sweaty in front of other people.  Yikes!  But there is a swimming pool and I am always happy when in water so that will be glorious and wonderful!

Then I have a weekend of drinking with various ladies whom I hold dear.  That will probably spoil much of my efforts, but if you can’t live a little what is the point?!

Here’s hoping everyone has a lovely Easter weekend!  Happy fluffy bunnies and colourfully decorated eggs to all!

I did it!!!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Ok so those who know me, will know I am not athletic, or sporty, or exercise bound.  However at Christmas time I decided that 2008 would be the year I stop sitting on my butt complaining how big it is and actually get up and do something.  Now obviously I am still me, so going to the gym or doing anything that other people would witness was not an option.

I had bought a Playstation game a while ago called Kinetics, which is like having a personal trainer on a disk.  It’s basically a enhanced workout video.  Using the Eyetoy you can watch yourself on screen, next to the trainer, and make sure you’re in the right position for exercises where you could hurt yourself if you do it wrong.  The games vary and give you a score so that as you do well you can progress to a harder level.  Its all very clever and I finally got into it.

I have just finished the 12 week program.  I got a grade A for the final week so that was cool.  Out of the whole 12 weeks I only missed one session which is outstanding for me!!

I have set it up to do the extended program so now I, in effect, do weeks 9-12 over and over.  The challenge to try and bet my personal best each time keeps me motivated so we’ll see how long I can keep it up for.  At least I won’t have so much wobbling when I go to the South of France in June and have to wear a swimsuit in public!!

So there, I’m very proud of myself.  But not so much that I’ll give up now!!  I have lost almost half a stone but it won’t hurt me to loose some more!  Bryan has been a gem and been cooking us some really healthy dinners, he even has me eating prawns!  He’s also very good at ensuring that only a few “naughty” things get in the shopping trolley.  This week I have a box of dark Magnums – yum!  And no, of course I haven’t given up chocolate, you don’t want me to go mad do you?!

Christmas at last!!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Strange blog title for March you say?  Well it would be for a normal person, but when have I ever been one of those?  I can explain myself though, logically even!  For Christmas I asked Bryan for a framed photo of my dearie beloved, and sadly departed, chipmunk Captain Jack Sparrow.  He had a fair choice considering I have 504 photos of the wee chap.  Anyway I did indeed get what I asked for but I also got two empty frames with a promise of pictures of our new pets to go in them so I had a full set.  Funnily enough Bryan is ignoring the hamsters I had when we started going out, he was never keen on them and used to go mad at their nocternal lifestyle!

He wanted to get a flash or something for his new camera and was convinced he’d get more frame worthy photos with it, so I was to wait for the set to be completed.  Today he printed me out photos AND put them up on the wall, hurrah!

If you would like to see the photos they are on Bryan’s Flickr pages: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21420423@N07/.

Now our dining room is really looking “proper”, with the lovely table and chairs we bought in the January sales and piccies on the wall.

Dining Room

Hurrah!  And just to add to the feeling of Christmas treats Bryan even drove me to Tesco and bought us some Magnums – supercalifragilous expaidocious (sorry Mary Poppins is on tv – just to finish off my Christmas feeling!  That’s really quite spooky, it’s the one movie I remember watching one Christmas Day whilst I waited for the guests at Woodford Bridge Hotel to be served so I could get my lunch with the staff, which included my folks).

Was funny today as there was a Milk advert in the car park and Bryan asked me who it was as we were heading into the store.  I knew she was an actress in something I had been watching but couldn’t think who she was.  It was still driving me mad by the time we came out so I was saying I would Google it when we got in, then as we drove out the carpark I realised it was the Scottish woman in Ugly Betty.  Bryan thought I was wrong so I got googling as soon as I got in the house.  It took some searching but eventually I proved myself right and got to do the “I was right” dance!  What jolly fun!  Proof is available here: http://www.scottishfoodanddrink.com/view_item.aspx?item_id=54476

Hope you are having a jolly day too!

Hello there world, not much to say but thought I would share hubby’s photos of our gorgeous, lovely, adorable, kittens with anyone out there – http://www.flickr.com/photos/bry_robertson/  And yes, I am going to keep them!

Am having quite a good week so far.  Finally met Jenny from London on Monday who contacted me in the hope I could help her find a job in Aberdeen, as she too is a Law Librarian who wishes to move here.  I check the Press and Journal job section for her every Friday and email her a report before I start work but there really isn’t much relevant.  She had an interview yesterday so fingers crossed!  Was weird meeting after a few emails back and forth, we felt like pals and I went to hug her and then thought that was a bit much for a “first date”!  We got on well though so looking forward to her moving up here!

Last night I “popped round to Gill’s” for a wee natter.  Ended up getting home…well…let’s just say if I was a fairy princess I would have been rolling my pumpkin home…  Luckily I’m not so I just had to walk without any impediments!  Was good to have a good girlie chat though, and I’m sure Bryan was relived to get a night without my banter!  Woke up this morning, slightly the worse for wear, and remembered that I’d agreed to go to the gym on the public holiday next week – oops!  Am sure I’ll love it once I get there though, especially the pool.  I do love swimming.  Wish the local council would change their mind about closing Bon Accord Baths, its lovely and central and I used to enjoy going once a week with Lydia.

Anyway, must check emails and stuff before lunchtime crashes to an end!  Ciao for now!

My week – bands, babies and beasties

Monday, March 10th, 2008

I had won tickets to go and see The Metros.  Unfortunately my pals had either never heard of them, or don’t like going out on “a school night”.  So I gave the extra ticket away through Freecycle to a very excited girl called Angela and went by myself.  I had a fab night.  Two of the bouncers I’ve met before were on the door so I was out chatting to them.  Mike introduced me to a guy who might use me for PR work for bands, in return for free entry, so fingers crossed I hear from him soon to keep my addiction fed!!  I have been good so far this year and only bought one ticket, although we won’t go into that just now!

So the first band were awful.  It wasn’t all their fault and I did feel sorry for them but it was nice when they gave up and left the stage!  Next up were The Wallbirds and they do a lovely mix of folk/country/rock.  I loved them!

Wallbirds

I got chatting to another concert lover, called George and he bought me the CD so I have been enjoying that since the night!  The Metros were good, so good I forgot to take a photo!  Which is a shame as they are lovely young men!  I was rather taken with the guitarist with perfectly polished brogues who was drinking red wine.  Bless him, so rock!

This weekend I was off south to meet a couple of babies and help Mum and Dad out in their restaurant.  First stop was my cousin’s house in Fife to meet her new son Euan.  He is tiny-wee and adorable, and didn’t even cry when I held him!  Well, not all the time anyway!

Cousin Lynne’s Baby Euan

Lynne and Ian seem to be settling into parenthood rather well, except for some hassle with car seats for the wee one.  I didn’t appreciate how complicated that could be!

After that I headed to my folks’ place and tried to remember how to lay tables and be a waitress.  It all came flooding back – although I don’t like their new glasses that are like very thin fish bowls and refused to wash them!  It was opening night after their February holiday so Mum was glad to have an extra pair of hands around, and I was glad to taste test a new chocolate dessert which went down rather well..

In the morning I was thrilled that the whole family of red squirrels came out to feed and play, I even got a glimpse of the sparrow hawk – although luckily not at the same time!

Spot the red squirrels

Before heading home I had another baby to meet so Mum and I headed to Myrica’s house and claimed cuddle rights to her new daughter Freya.  I was amazed to find she seemed even smaller than Euan was, although of course I won’t comment on who was cuter…  Mum enjoyed her wee cuddle.

My journey home featured all the different types of weather imaginable, as well as the most picture perfect rainbow – although unfortunately there was not a layby to be found until it was too late.  I enjoyed my few moments driving into the bow though, it was amazing, I could see both ends one at each side of the dual carriage way moving forward as I did so.  I am sure I could see where the pot of gold should be but luckily couldn’t see any gold as that would have been very frustrating with no laybys!!

I was glad to get home to my kittie kats and hubby though.  Poor Bryan is suffering from a cold so I don’t feel too guilty for having left him all weekend, at least he didn’t have to put up with me and a runny nose!

One last photo before I go to bed, Benson does love boxes so it’s always good to share when we have one…

Again we got gorgeous and lovely weather so decided to go out to the beach – as you do in the north of Scotland in March!!  I absolutely love Balmedie beach just north of Abereen so we headed up there in the car with a towel, just in case we decided to dive into the sea!

We had a walk along the beach and then charged up a sand dune…

Guess where we walked…

…to sit at the top and watch the waves crash whilst we had a good gab and looked at my pretty shoes!
